BWFC Over 50’s progressed to the National finals of the WFA National Cup on Tuesday with hard fought win over top side, Solihull Moors.
The Moors made the better start to the game and went ahead in the early stages with a goal from Brendan Wilkin, after slack marking from B’ham allowed the front man to blast home from the edge of the area. B’ham didn’t let this set back get the better of them as they grew into the game from here.
They were handed a lifeline moments later when one of the Moors players was adjudged to go into the area after blocking a shot from the impressive Dave Busst. Paul Murtagh coolly slotted home the resultant penalty and it stayed 1-1 till half time.
The second half saw B’ham continue on the front foot and it wasn’t long before Gez McGinnis turned his man on the edge of the area to finish off what was a fine goal from him. Further twists and turns saw a penalty awarded the other way this time but the Moors striker could only hit is effort against the post and the score remained 1-2.
Moors huffed and puffed for the remainder of the game but a well organised B’ham team managed out the game to record their first visit to the finals since they won the trophy back in 2017.
The finals will be held in Nottingham on the 7th September 2025.
