This years WFA Nationals took place on Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th July at Gloucester Uni’s Oxstalls Sport Village. The tournament began with the 40’s and 60’s followed by the 50’s on Sunday. BWFC entered two teams (40s/50s) but were unable to field a 60’s this year.
The 40’s – Donna, Tracy E, Tracy D, Paula, Rachel, Alli, Kelly, Tracey H
A great team effort from the 40’s this year getting through to the Semi final without conceding a goal and scoring 14! Virtually every player scored on the day with exception of the Goalkeeper, to get them there.
The team were disappointed to lose out 1 – 0 in the semis to the eventual winners (Liverpool Feds) but should be proud of their performance in the blistering heat! Our thanks to all the players for representing the club, especially Tracey H who got injured and ended up in A&E with ligament damage! Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

The 50’s – Sue, Dee, Nic, Joy, Tracy D, Zoe, Tracy E, Jenny
Sunday was the cooler of the two day tournament in which our 50’s held onto the National Winners title for the 4th year in a row! The team got through to the final, like the 40’s, without conceding a goal thanks the the defense and ‘BWFC’s number one’ Tracy E.
The first game against Leighton Orient began with a contentious decision by the referee to disallow a very obvious goal hit by Jenny through the keepers legs. With feathers ruffled the girls dug deep and slotted a further THREE goals into the net to secure a good win.
The next game was against British Allsorts a quality side that the team held fast to gain a draw despite Sue hitting the crossbar only to watch the ball bounce the wrong side of the net.
Oxford was next, the game where Dee played a blinder and scored not once but twice! The following game against Bristol Badgers Dee’s magic continued, scoring again to secure the teams third win of the day getting them through to the quarter finals against Taunton.
Excellent goals from Sue and Tracy D comfortably took the 50’s to the Semi final against Oxford. The game ended 0-0 at full time and went to penalties where it ended 2-1 to Birmingham!
BWFC then met British Allsorts in the final. A close game where both sides had their chances but it was Birmingham who scored after Tracy was taken down outside the D by the Allsorts last defender as she was about to shoot. The whistle was blown and it was decided by the referee and assistant the incident was a DOGSO (denying a goal scoring opportunity) and a penalty was awarded. Joy took the pressure shot to win the match and secure the title for Birmingham for the fourth year! Congratulations to all the players.
