Birmingham WFC 5 v Old Corinthians 0
Our Over 68 League side duly completed their campaign with a comfortable 5 – 0 win against Old Corinthians. The league could have been won with a game to spare two weeks earlier, but an uncharacteristically nervy performance against MSA Burntwood ended in a 2 – 1 defeat and meant that Birmingham had to win their last game to be crowned Champions.
Again, they started slowly but a well taken goal from top scorer and eventual Golden Boot Winner, Nick Wilkie, settled the team down and further goals from Roger Sutton and a cheeky lob from Roy “Road Runner” Williams put Birmingham in an unassailable position at the top of the league. An own goal by Corinthians sealed their fate before half time.
A special mention for Keith Phipps (our goalie ) who played all season ( sometimes travelling back from holiday in St Ives ) but was unable to play in the last game and missed the celebrations. Keith is a real club man and I would like to thank him along with all the other members of the squad for their loyal support throughout the season.
